There are places that feel as though they were made for love stories, where the walls hold centuries of whispered vows and the light falls just so, golden and heavy with feeling. Soughton Hall is one of those places.

When the vision for this shoot began to take shape, Sophie Griffiths sat down with me and wanted to take the passion and heart from Wuthering Heights and put it into a shoot. A love that is dramatic and literary, yet soft at the edges. Romantic, not harsh.

The Setting

Soughton Hall lent itself to the concept effortlessly. Its grand rooms are alive with character - rooms accented with sage and dusky blue, ornate fireplaces adorned with bronze stag figures, and warm wooden panelling.

The contrast between rooms was something we leant into fully. The dining room with its delicate floral wallpaper became our banquet space. Just adjacent, the dramatic feature wall of gold and navy became the perfect ceremony set up and later a cake backdrop.

The Florals

The flowers, designed by the extraordinary talent at In the Meadow Floral Design, were nothing short of breathtaking. Rich crimson garden roses, deep burgundy ranunculus, blush anemones, and trailing eucalyptus tumbled across the table in lush bursts of floral.

"Deep reds and blush pinks, the warmth of candlelight, lush greenery weaving between - every arrangement felt as though it had grown there naturally."

The long banquet table was dressed in the softest blush, patterned linen, with alternating deep red and pale pink taper candles in brass holders scattered amongst the blooms. Fresh strawberries and clusters of dark grapes were nestled between the flowers, adding texture and a hint of the wild; a nod to the romanticised countryside of our inspiration.

The Bride

The bridal look was the starting point for the shoot and focused on soft romantic glamour. Her multiple gowns by By Meg Bridal were a dream. Designed to compliment the venue, the styling, and the model. One in particular caught my eye as it was beautifully structured with delicate beaded detailing, flowing into soft layers. Worn first with a sheer lace-edged veil and paired with the most exquisite deep crimson bouquet. Makeup by By Sophie Griffiths gave her that luminous, romantic quality that should be on every Bride's Pinterest board! Jewellery by Fox Clarke Heritage finished the look in the most perfect way.

The Groom

His suit was a beautifully tailored black morning coat with fine pinstripe trousers from Oliver Brown London — spoke of quiet elegance and confidence. A soft duck-egg blue cravat and a lush floral buttonhole brought him into the colour story of the shoot.

The Cake

Natalie's Cakes and Bakes created a showpiece that stopped everyone in the room. A multi-tiered masterpiece, white at the crown fading into the deepest burgundy ombré below and painted with the most intricate floral lace detailing. It was adorned with sugar roses, pearls and greenery that complimented everything in place. It was the perfect addition to the shoot!

The Details

Stationery by Scribed by Sophie completed the world beautifully with bespoke signage reading "This love, forever ours" hung against the fireplace. The vintage crockery from The Vintage Tea Service added a layer of history and romance to the table, each mismatched piece telling its own small story. Every element, every surface, every detail was considered and intentional.

This shoot was one of those rare days where every creative came together and produced something that felt truly alive. I am so proud of what this team made - and so grateful to Soughton Hall for being the most magnificent backdrop imaginable.

If a wedding rooted in literary romance, candlelit intimacy and rich, lush florals speaks to you, I would love to hear from you.
